On October 17, 1995 Jermaine was shot in his right eye. This is where his moniker “One Eye” comes from. It took him eighteen months to recover from this injury. The date was February 21, 2001 while in a barbershop Jermaine received a dare from a friend to try his hand at stand-up comedy. There was an “Amateur Night” at a local nightclub that evening; he did well for a first time comedian. After a couple weeks of doing this, he received a break. He opened up a show at the University of Pittsburgh. This was the show that let the whole city of Pittsburgh know that there was a new comedian on the scene. After a short time of performing he received a chance to headline shows. This usually takes comedians years to achieve but because of his natural ability, Jermaine reached this goal in only two months. Since 2002 Jermaine has had several accomplishments. The most prestigious was his second place finish in the “Pittsburgh Improv Young Comedians Contest.” In 2005 “One Eye” competed on” Showtime at the Apollo on Tour”.
